I will fill this out in spits and starts as I have time. Communications is moved to the top since it is most important at the moment.

How to best communicate with me

I've realized I need large blocks of uninterrupted/low-distraction time to do development work. My flow state is very productive (and enjoyable!) but hard to get into and hard to get out of. I've decided to change my relationship with slack and the way I communicate as an experiment to see if it will afford me more/better development time.

  • I have blocked off large periods of development time on my calendar. Feel free to send me invites to meetings during those times. Obviously I will break my flow for meetings where my presence is important.

  • I will do my best to check all the slack channels once in the morning and once in the evening. Throughout the day I will have notifications muted for all channels except #odetect-firmware-general.

  • The fastest way to reach me will be a direct message on slack. I will not mute these notifications, although if this doesn't bring distractions down to the level I need I may reconsider this.

  • I will do my best to check my e-mail once in the morning and once in the evening, although e-mail tends to be my "forgotten technology" unless I'm specifically waiting for a particular message.

  • If I am not responding to a direct message on slack and it is a dire dire makeshift-is-on-fire situation, look up my personal cell phone number on the employee contact info spreadsheet (on the google drive) and reach out to me on whatsapp.

  • Failing whatsapp, call me, although I often have my ringer muted while working. I have family members on whatsapp so I always have notifications on in case they need to reach me in an emergency.
